In our last Blog we talked of the Hot Colours of the A/W 2017 Season - But how should we be wearing them? Let's have a look at what was seen on the catwalks and work out how we can nod to the Fashion Trends without being a slave to them.
Chunky Knits, Grandad Cardigans and Cordoroy
For Daytime there will be no need to be cold this Autumn/Winter. Oversized knits and Grandad cardigans were all over the catwalk.
We still have to photograph our lovely range of knits from DECK but take it from us they have got the trend spot on. And whilst cordoroy featured in many of the Key Designers catwalk pieces for this Season for Lily&Me it had never gone away, with their fabulous needle-cord tunics very ontrend and already flying out the door here.
The Waist is Back
Whether it was coats or dresses, this Season sees an emphasis on the Waist. Invest in wide belt to update a straight coat or consider dresses with ties or waist details. A returning brand for us is Smash and we just love this tie dress - perfect for work or the school run.
Florals or Plaid
For the more feminine dressers amongst you florals remain popular - be it Rose Bowl pretty or Midnight Garden.
But for those of you that prefer a print - abstract plaid patterns are where it is at. Lorna has already snapped up this fabulous easy to wear shift dress from new brand Smashed Lemon.
Hi Shine, Bright Spark, Velvet, Victoriana & More
For evening there are a number of trends to choose from. For fabrics, lace is being replaced by Hi Shine fabrics and luxurious velvets. Our portugese brand Cotton Brothers delivers on both - perfect for those Autumn Evenings out.
As for style, whilst anything goes "Victoriana" is making a resurgence. So think of high collars and pussy bows.
Fancy TightsOne way of updating last year's look is to add a pair of fancy tights - for evening try fishnets and by day add a pair of coloured tights to brighten up your outfit.
Flight of Fancy
Finally "Flights of Fancy" gives you the option to wear anything with a feather trim. We at Vivaldi are a little too practical to have this trend instore and are recommending if you fancy following this one that you buy a scarf of other accessory - an item of clothing will just be a drycleaning nightmare!
All that is left to be done now is to pick one or two of your preferred looks to update your wardrobe - Roll on Autumn 2017 - its not that like we have had much Summer anyway!
We like to think we know our customers well, and while we always sell lots of grey, navy and taupe, we know that if there's one thing our customers don't like, it's a store full of dull colours! So thank goodness for the arrival of Mudd & Water in all its brightly-coloured gloriousness!
Rich mustard and sunny turquoise combine with soft greys and navy to create a really wearable collection that all the girls at Vivaldi are lusting after. Choose from soft cotton/merino blend knitted tunics, stripe tees perfect for layering, cashmere-blend sweaters and brightly coloured striped rugby sweatshirts.
We're taking our cue from the Autumn/Winter '15 catwalks with this look, which were awash with bold colours. We know there's always a tendency to stick to more muted shades in the winter, but we think it feels almost liberating to walk out the house on a dull day wearing a real splash of colour. So enjoy wearing your mustard tunic or bright red coat - and remember, you can apply the same thought to Christmas parties - bored of the LBD? We think cobalt blue or emerald green will guarantee you'll leave a lasting impression - even after everyone's had a few glasses of fizz!
Autumn is in full swing, and the Vivaldi team are starting to pull out our new season buys from our wardrobes and put away our summer clothes. Lesley's favourite collection this year is definitely from Sandwich Clothing - the Dutch brand has excelled itself this year with a gorgeous colour palette of soft rust, cream, charcoal and blush pink. Our chunky rib jumper has already sold out, only a few weeks after it arrived in store! Lesley has been modelling the pretty feather-print top, worn with her rust-coloured jeans for a great coordinated look.We love this stripe top, too - wear with grey skinny jeans and a chunky knit for a casual look.'Heritage' is a big trend this year, and you'll see all the high-street shops taking it on. Think checks, plaid, tweed and jaquard with a modern spin. This new Sandwich Checked Dress has just arrived in store, and we think it would make a great workwear look for the autumn with opaque tights and boots. And finally, a plain slouchy clutch bag in a neutral colour is a must - this Sandwich Clutch is big enough to hold the essentials and is stylishly low-key.Thanks, Sandwich, for making our lives a bit easier this season!
The trend (and customer demand) for all things grey doesn't seem to be going anywhere - it's definitely taken over from black as the cool girls' colour of choice. A favourite of off-duty models and fashion editors alike, there's something understated, but bang-on trend about grey - a sense of not trying too hard but still being the envy of all your friends!
All our brands at Vivaldi have incorporated grey into their collections this season, and there really is something for everyone, whether you suit pale shades or darker charcoal. From knitwear at B Young, to car coats and dresses at Sandwich, you can choose to go head-to-toe grey or mix with stronger, statement accent colours. Accessories haven't been missed either, with shoes from FLY London and handbags from Fiorelli and Nica.
We're looking forward to a grey A/W season!
